In brief
LG's KizON helps parents keep track of their children through GPS, designated-area alerts and simple phone calls. Calls unanswered for 10 seconds connect automatically so parents can hear the surroundings; the article also suggests adapting the wristband for pets.
LG has introduced KizON, a GPS tracker designed for children, in South Korea. Combining GPS with basic phone functions, it lets parents check their children's location through a smartphone app. Parents can also set a designated area, and KizON will notify them when their child leaves it.
KizOn also offers a simple calling function: pressing a button calls a preset number. Parents can contact their children through the app as well. If a call is not answered within 10 seconds, KizON automatically connects it, allowing parents to hear sounds from the surrounding environment.
Devices of this kind combine hardware and software in the form of an app. Using GPS to track locations is nothing new, but applying it to help parents look after their children is a creative idea. With this equipment, parents no longer need to worry about their children getting lost or losing track of them when they are out of sight.
This technology could also be applied to pets simply by changing the wristband's design. People in Hong Kong would no longer need to worry about their beloved cats and dogs getting lost. Passers-by who encounter a lost pet could also use the device to speak with its owner and help reunite them.
