Apple recently announced its App Store Best of 2020 list, which selected a total of 15 outstanding apps and games. The physical award that was shown at the time, which resembles a blue Mac Mini, has now been sent to the winning developers.

Winners including Flexibits, the developer of Fantastical, and miHoYo, the developer of Genshin Impact (《原神》), have now received the awards presented by Apple.

According to Apple, the design of the award was inspired by the iconic blue imagery of the App Store. Each award is set into an Apple logo made from 100% recycled aluminum, with the winner's name engraved on the reverse side, and it comes with a signature and congratulations from Apple's CEO.

This year's iPhone App of the Year went to Wakeout!, created by independent developer Andres Canella, which brings gentle exercise into home offices and classrooms and offers a variety of relaxed, inclusive movements designed for everyone. Games such as Genshin Impact (《原神》), Legends of Runeterra (《符文大地傳說》), Disco Elysium (《極樂迪斯可》), Dandara Trials of Fear, and Sneaky Sasquatch, which is included in the Apple Arcade subscription service, let players escape the pressures of reality in vast fantasy worlds, while Disney+ delivers the sense of limitless possibility that people crave.

In addition, Zoom, which supports remote learning; Fantastical, which helps people build daily routines; and Endel, which helps users fall asleep, were all named winners on the App Store Best of 2020 list.

Regarding this year's app development trends, Apple also believes that most apps this year were built primarily around mutual support. Among them, Shine introduced specific sections on the relationship between mental health and the Black experience, while Explain Everything Whiteboard uses the cloud to let groups of students keep completing projects together even when working remotely.

As for Caribu, it added dozens of interactive games and hundreds of books to its live video calling platform so that family and friends can interact, while Pokémon GO was adapted for play at home in response to the pandemic, reworking its hugely popular outdoor gameplay. In addition, ShareTheMeal, launched by the United Nations World Food Programme, has made it easier for users to share more than 87 million meals with others.
