In brief

Huawei is inviting app developers to join its community free of charge and pledging support for publishing apps on App Gallery. As it faces US restrictions and a partial suspension of cooperation with Google, Vodafone plans to launch commercial 5G services using Huawei equipment in 15 Spanish cities on 15 June 2019.

An anonymous developer in the software development community XDA-Developers published a letter from Huawei showing that the company is inviting app developers to join the developer community for its app store free of charge. Separately, 15 cities in Spain will launch commercial 5G services using Huawei equipment on Saturday (15 June).

App Gallery Said to Have 560,000 Developers

According to Guancha.cn, Huawei’s letter stated: “To ensure that our users can use your app smoothly, Huawei pledges to provide comprehensive support to help you publish your app on ‘App Gallery’ (Huawei’s official app store).” Huawei said developers were welcome to join its community of 560,000 developers free of charge.

The United States issued a ban against Huawei last month, and Google announced that it would suspend some of its cooperation with Huawei. The next generation of Huawei smartphones will be unable to use applications including Android. XDA is a mobile software development community with five million users worldwide. It believes that, if Huawei wants to survive without Google, it needs to ensure its smartphones have a thriving app ecosystem。
